It is the night of October 17, 2025.
An explosive device has been placed under the car of investigative journalist and Report host Sigfrido Ranucci. The car blew up, damaging another family vehicle and the nearby house. On the scene were the Carabinieri, Digos, forensic police, and firefighters. The local prosecutor’s office was immediately alerted, as was the Prefect. The blast was powerful enough to kill anyone passing by.
In a statement, the President and Commissioners of Italy’s Communications Authority expressed “deep solidarity and closeness to journalist Sigfrido Ranucci and his family for the vile attack suffered last night.”
The note called it “an act of intimidation that, beyond being a grave personal crime, represents an assault on the freedom of a professional journalist and on every Italian’s right to free, independent, and qualified information.”
Is the Italian press free?
The truth is that the Italian press has failed to prove itself free.
It appears increasingly submissive to the neo-fascist government in Rome, to Washington’s dictates, to the bureaucrats of Brussels, and under the watchful eye of Israel’s spyware, as The Guardian revealed last June.
The pursuit of truth by Report will no doubt continue; the bombing will not stop Report from doing its job. The program’s new season is set to debut on Oct. 26 as planned.
The attack on the journalist Sigfrido Ranucci is no accident. It is the price of being among the few editorial teams still willing to expose corruption and the hypocrisy of Italian and foreign politics.
The RAI program “Report“ has irritated many—politicians, corporations, foreign governments, and organized crime syndicates, both homegrown and international. It has also dared to illuminate Europe and Italy’s complicity in Israel’s crimes and focused on Israel’s genocide. The program recently reported on alleged connections between soccer teams, far-right politicians, and organized crime.
